Can you believe it. It has been 21 days since we last blogged on Water for Sixth Grade. Part of the delay is due to International Connections and the Creating Rome project. Now we are back. It is so good to be back. Stretch out your fingers, settle into your seat, and blog like you've never blogged before. You have just finished taking the Ancient Rome Examination. Like we have done in the past, let us think about what we have learned, what we have accomplished, and what we are going to miss about this unique civilization, this civilization of Rome. What have we learned? Well, we have learned that being a gladiator is a risky way of life, taking a bath with strangers in the middle of town is NOT weird, volcano's erupt, Christianity spread, and a 'circus' is not just about clowns and funnel cakes. What have we accomplished? Well, we have conquered the web quest, built Ancient Rome and increased our ancient civilization knowledge. What will we miss? Well, we will miss everything.
This is your last chance to deal with Ancient Rome, so do a good job. Using only your brain, tell me and tell our international audience everything you know about Rome. For a start Rome is a city.
Romulus and Remus were twin brothers. They were abandoned by their parents as babies and put into a basket that was then placed into the River Tiber. The basket ran aground and the twins were discovered by a female wolf. The wolf nursed the babies for a short time before they were found by a shepherd. The shepherd then brought up the twins.When Romulus and Remus became adults, they decided to found a city where the wolf had found them. The brothers quarrelled over where the site should be and Remus was killed by his brother. This left Romulus the sole founder of the new city and he gave his name to it – Rome. The date given for the founding of Rome is 753 BC.
The Roman Army developed fighting techniques that were linked to a ferocious training regime. All new recruits to the army became very fit and disciplined. Training was harsh, as were punishments for failure. In a battle, new recruits were always placed at the front of the more experienced soldiers in the army. There were three reasons for this. The first was to give them confidence as behind them were experienced soldiers who had fought in battles before. Secondly, it stopped the new soldiers running away if their courage deserted them. Finally, those who were more likely to be killed in the initial phase of a battle were at the front. The hardened and experienced legionnaires were at the rear. The Roman Army could ill afford to lose experienced legionnaires whereas if a new legionnaire came through a battle alive, he would be blooded and experienced and a valuable addition to the army. If he was killed, then the loss of his inexperience would not be too great.
The events staged at the Colosseum were many. Nearly all of them involved death and destruction. There were the well known gladiator fights and the feeding of Christians to lions. There were also a number of lesser known events such as mock sea battles involving ships, animal circus acts, animals fighting animals and animal hunts.All sorts of animals were kept in cages below the Colosseum. Wild cats, buffaloes, bears and elephants would all be kept and then made to fight one another. In some parts of the Roman Empire, certain animals died out because their type was in such demand by those who ran entertainment in Rome itself. It is thought that on the day the Colosseum opened, over 5,000 animals were killed.

um what i know about rome is that they had theaters. They would go there to see shows. There was a famous building called the Colessium, there they watch poeople (gladiators) fight, there were also races. The gladiators were normally slaves or criminals and sometimes even animals! :( There was another popular spot and that was the public bath there were many things in the public baths such as shops, a hot room, sauna, a cool pool and a bunch of other stuff. there were many pulic baths in Rome. There were small ones that could hold about 900 people, the bigger ones could hold about 150,000 people or more. Now I'll tell you a little about Raman Emporers, there were 7 that I know of, there was Julius Ceasar, Constantine, Augustis (August was named after him), Nero, Marcus Aurilious,Caligula, and Claudius. Ancient Rome was and is located on the italian penninsula in Italy, which is on the continent of Europe. Professional warriors called gladiators fought in a huge round ampitheater called the colloseum. The colloseum was originally known as the Flavian Anpitheater. The colloseum is half broken due to neglected care. THe Pantheon was built to honor all gods, so it is a little like a church. amazingly it is still in use today. Roman roads are were very important to Ancient Rome. they helped with trade and military access. They are also used for walking on. There were as many as 900 public baths. They had many rooms in addition to the baths. There were also caesers or emporers. Marcus Aurilius Sold his own jewelery to help to pay for food during a famine. Julius Caeser was a great emporer. He helped lower taxes. Augustus was one of the greatest emporers of the all. He even started the Pax Romana otherwise known as the Great Roman Peace. Caligula was mentally unstable, and he made his horse a senator. Nero never trusted anyone and ended up killing himself by stabbing himself in the throat. Claudius took back the artwork that Caligula stole. Constintine eventually made christianity a official religion of Rome.

There are a lot of things I learned about Ancient Rome throughout this unit. I’ll start with Christianity. Jesus started this new religion; it was spreading throughout Ancient Rome. He grew up in Nazareth, and was born in Palestine. We know about his life from the New Testament. Believers followed the bible: and if caught by Constantine, they were hung. Constantine had a change of heart and allowed it throughout Rome.
Gladiators fought in amphitheaters. They are like a modern day arena. A very famous amphitheater is called the Coloseum. Gladiators were either a slave, criminal, or a plebian. They fought wild animals, or each other until death.

This Unit I have learned that slaves and criminals were the gladiators. I’ve learned that Pompeii was a city that had a volcano erupt and was then covered in ash, it was hard to escape, was hard to breathe, people died and were found many years later. They were in balls on the ground and were found by using plaster. Roads were good use to Rome because they helped the people trade was transportation to the military. I’ve learned that animals were brought from far away to be in fights with gladiators. Gladiators were the greatest fighters of all time.

Some things about rome i know are that romans liked watching people die. They watched these fights in a place called the collusiem. In the collusium gladiotors fought either fought gladiotors or gladiotors fought animals or animals fought animals. Gladiotors were either slaves or crimanals. Lets move on to the public baths. The public baths were very popular in Rome . In the public baths they had tons of rooms some of the rooms were librarys resteraunts.

Ancient Rome was definitely an interesting unit I can give it that but not the best unit we have done and although I have learned a lot of things about Rome I fear that I could only use that information in game shows. So hear is pretty much all of what I learned. Pantheon is a beautiful monument, but as beautiful as it is I can’t really capture the essence of it without actually being there, anyway the pantheon was used as a Building to honor their many gods. Now days the pantheon is used as a Catholic church. How ironic. Gladiators fought to the death and consisted of slaves, the poor, and criminals. There were different kinds of fights such as gladiator vs. gladiator, gladiator vs. animal, or a gladiator vs. a lot of animals. The coliseum was where all of that action happened. It is the biggest arena known to man kind ever built from brick.

I learned a lot of things about Ancient Rome. I learned who Gladiators are, (Slaves, the poor, or criminals) and a lot about the Colosseum. It can actually fit 50,000 people, which is really good. I also learned a bunch about Roman baths, mainly because it was my project. But Mr. Klumper did a great job teaching us about it. Ha-ha. Roman baths could fit 300-500 people at one time. They were mainly baths open to the public. About Gladiators, I really think that it’s sad. They shouldn’t have to fight to the death, or have to be taken as slaves. =\ I learned about Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius. Mt. Vesuvius erupted and coated Pompeii in ash, it actually erupted several times. The last time it erupted it officially killed the survivors of Pompeii. The people of Pompeii had no idea what was happening the first eruption, so it took them a little to finally realize that “Hey, maybe we should get ourselves out before we suffocate!” By that time, it was too late for most. The people who had escaped into the country were safe until the last eruption. So all of Pompeii was completely buried in ash and perfectly preserved. I learned a ton, so its hard to put it down in 300 words…Okay, I also learned about the Emperors. Marcus Aurilius, Constantine, Augustus Caesar (who, by the way, had the month I was born in named after him), Nero, and more. Nero was mentally challenged. The Romans also had Aqueducts, which were very important for the cleanliness of Romans. They brought water to places as far as 50 miles away, and supplied the water for Public Baths. I thought the coolest thing about Rome is that they had theatres outside, and they were open aired. That’s cool, and they didn’t have to pay admission so it was free. I learned a lot in Ancient Rome but im only going to tell you a little about it.
Ancient Rome had a few good leaders like Markus, and a few other nut cases like Nero. Rome even had a bath house and you could do more than just a bath, you could go to the snack bar, and im not going to name all of the rooms. Glatiators were either slaves or criminals. Ok, I know that Roman baths were taken in public in a bathhouse. Men and women had separate times to take baths. Rooms in the bath house included hot and cold baths, libraries, snack shops, public bathrooms, music rooms, stores, and shops. The hot bath was heated by a fire, lit off to the side of the bath under the bath. Pillars would evenly distribute the heat. The higher water stayed warm because the heated water would rise, and the cooler water would sink, to be reheated again by the fire.
There were two types of people in Ancient Rome. Patricians were the wealthier and made up ten percent of the population. Plebeians were the common people. They made up the other ninety percent. The role of the tribunes was to protect the rights of the plebeians.
Christianity was at first not accepted in Ancient Rome. Christians were persecuted.
so I'm going to tell you everything I know about Rome. well Rome is on the continent Europe and in Italy. So eventualy the Romans drove them out and established the republic. Wich consisted of all patricians the rich not plebians the normal people. Eventualy the plebians dicided the patricians were being unfair so they established tribunes. They were the ones who fought for the plebian's rights and just yelled "Veto" and the republic would stop their actons emediatly. It was Julius Ceasar that was feared by the republic and was killed because of that. After that the republic ended and emperors were established. Some of the empererors were good some were bad. At first the Romans believed in the gods but then Christianity came along and eventualy wiped the god theory out. Christianity was started by Jesus who was crucified for his actons. After the third day of being buried he rose from the dead. The goal for the children at school was to be an efective speaker. But school cost money so only the rich kids got to get tutored by the more gifted slaves. the plebian children were tought by there parents.
I have learned a lot about Rome. I did not know a lot to begin with, but now I know a lot. My favorite part was learning while we did our projects. That was a lot of fun! It was hard but I learned a lot. I hope we do something like that again. This is what I learned while doing that I learned that Rome did a lot to honor all there gods. They worshiped many gods until Jesus came and taught them about Christianity. That is when you worship 1 god and only 1god. I also learned that being a gladiator was very challenging! Usually the gladiators were slaves and criminals but sometimes they were people who want to fight. There were 3 types of fights: animal V.S animal, animal V.S human, or human V.S human. The way they decided if the person losing would die or live is they would look at the king and the crowd, and if they were holding there thumbs up the would live but if they were holding there thumbs down the person would die. Their language was influenced by the Latins and their religion by the Greeks. Their main god was Jupiter, who was like the Greek Zeus. Italy is shaped like a boot and is about to kick Sicily. They had proffesional fighters called Gladiators. The Gladiator games were either man to man, man to animal, or animal to animal. A neighboring city called Pompeii was preserved in ash that billowed out of Mt. Vesuvius, leaving no survivers. Pompeii was a popular site for good food and vibrant life. Haddrian built a building called the Pantheon to honor the gods. Christianity was started by a guy named Jesus. Constantine made Christianity equal to all other religions in Rome. Theodosius made it Rome's main religion. People who were Christians read the Bible. Things they traded were wine, crops and olive oil. The most famous amphitheater was the Colloseum.

What a great time I have had in Ancient Rome (okay not really) I learned that the ancient Romans liked to bathe with other people, liked violence and killing, enjoyed plays and theater, and also did not have computers ( ha ha Mr. Klumper no blogs!) The ancient Romans also started the religion of Christianity. It all started when a man (I did badly on the emperor part of the test) had a dream when Jesus came to him and told him to paint crosses on his men’s shields and they would win the war, he did and they won. The public bath was where everybody came to visit and socilize with friends and neighbors. they had to different time for the men and women, thats a good thing! At the public baths they had snack bars and rooms where ur slaves would wait. The public bath is alot like the pool but u dont have a swimming suit and you of course clean yourself.

I also learned that romans had a major river and a major sea one sea was the meditoranean it was BIG and the river was the tiber it was pretty big but i learned that they started christyanity I dont think I spelled that right. but they used to before christianity believed in more than one god but after christianity they only believed in one god. another thing i learned is that they built the panthion to honer all of their gods and it had one big hole in the top. Sorry, I think I had something in my throat. Back to things about Rome, wait, what were we talking about again? Oh yeah. The Romulus and Remus story was very unusual. Expecially the part about the she-wolf. Very unlikely! Speech giving was not fun. It makes it even worse when theres a dork sitting in the back of the room laughing at you.(Thank you Mr. Klumper) The emperors were very interesting. Expecially Nero. I mean, poisoning your step brother, killing your wife and mother. What a nice guy!(kidding) If I was an emperor-correction emperess,(if that is a word) I would totally do that too. Ok no I wouldn't but whatever. And lastly, I would like to thank Mr. Klumper for teaching such a boring unit, and making it even boringer than it needs to be.

The rich Ancient Romans enjoyed their food. Expensive food, along with a lavish villa, was an obvious way of showing off your wealth to others. If you hosted a banquet at your villa to which other Roman worthies had been invited, it had to go well if your social standing was to be maintained - hence why elaborate and expensive foods were well provided. Roast peacock and ostriches and the like, would be provided.
A different lifestyle also meant that the eating habits of the Ancient Romans were different to ours today. Breakfast (the Romans called this jentaculum) was taken in the master's bedroom and usually consisted of a slice of bread or a wheat pancake eaten with dates and honey. Wine was also drunk. Lunch (the Romans called this prandium) was eaten at about 11.00 a.m. and consisted of a light meal of bread, cheese and possibly some meat. In many senses, everything was geared up towards the main meal of the day - cena. This was eaten in the late afternoon or early evening. If the master of the house had no guests, cena might take about one hour. If he did have guests, then this meal might take as long as four hours. A light supper was usually eaten just before the Romans went to bed, consisting of bread and fruit. The Romans were usually not big meat eaters and a lot of their normal meals involved vegetables, herbs and spices together with a wheat meal that looked like porridge.

In the coliseum, there were ship battles (they flooded the arena to do the ship battles), land battles, and carriage battles. When the coliseum was inaugurated over nine thousand animals died. The Romans started building the coliseum in seventy one A.D. or seventy two A.D. and was finished in eighty or eighty one A.D. The coliseum was also known as the amphitheatrum flavium back when the romans ruled. The coliseum could seat about fifty thousand people at its most but scientists still don’t agree about how many it could seat. Today the coliseum is barely half there because of the massive earth quake that hit and stone robbers stole stone from the not-so-massive coliseum. The coliseum’s tickets were free so you could just walk in and they would let you. After the events were over the rich people would almost always throw a party and the poor people went to bed right away because the could not afford to keep the lamps lit.

Rome is a very, very, very cool place in Italy. You know Italy, pizzas and pasta and Ferraris and Lamborghinis. Two kids, Romulus and Remus were thrown out of their kingdom as babies. Then a mother she-wolf nursed them back to health. The gods then told them to build two cities on the Tiber River. Romulus’s bigger and better and Remus’s smaller and not so great. Well as a start Romulus and Remus were condisdered the founders of the city. THey were thrown in the river because the king was afraid that the two twins would someday overthrow him. THen they were nursed back to health by a she-wolf. Romlus and Remus decided they would build cities but Romulus had a bigger one. Remus was mad so he climbed the wall and got his head cut off. So i guess he died. That is how Rome got its name.
My project was pompeii but that is the best part ever!!! Pompeii has a volcano that lies over the city and it kinda erupted sending down a bunch of ash and rock killing everybody in the city. It is the best preserved city in the world as of now. Some jobs in pompeii are cleaner, carpenter, gambler, ship builder, and shop people. Pompeii was also the center of trade! They got lots of vistors including emperor Nero!
For entertainment in Rome they had a major building called the colleseum! In the colleseum were fights, races on chariots, and animal fights. Gladiators were the fighters and were mostly slaves. IF you were fighting and wanted mercy you could ask the crowd. If you got a thumbs up you can be free but thumbs down and lets just say good-bye!!! The plays and what ever else they had going on was mostly at night and usally free.

Rome is also by a few seas one is the Mediterranean sea. One of the major entertainment spots was the Coliseum where gladiator fights and games were held. The legend of Rome’s beginning starts with two twin boys named Romulus and Remus. The King thought they would over throw him so he dumped them in the river. A she-wolf found them and nursed them back to health. Then the story goes on to tell how Romulus creates Rome.
There were two different classes in ancient Rome. The Rich were called patricians, The poor were called plebians. The plebians usually had little apartment type rooms called flats, The whole family including mom, dad kids, grandpa, grandma, ect. Would all be cramped in there. The leaders of Rome were representatives. They also had a senate. They would select two people from the senate to be the tribune. The tribune would be able to stop the senates orders by yelling “veto”. If it was necessary one member of the tribune would become a dictator.

Things I learned about Rome are that for fun the Romans would attend sporting events and plays. Another thing Romans would do for fun was go to the public bath where they would talk to friends and family. They could also go to the gymnasium, the snack bar, or the music room. There are the aqueducts that carried water to baths and public fountains in Ancient Rome. They could carry water 50 miles. In the beginning Christians were prosecuted and most of the time killed. But Emperor Constantine changed that, he made it so Christianity was treated the same as any other religion. What I’ve learned about the Ancient Rome unit is that togas weren’t as cool as I thought they were because they were replaced by weird things called tunics. And, that rome is actually a city instead of a country. The Pantheon was this huge building built to honor the Gods. And that the Greek Gods basically had the same powers as the Roman Gods except for their names. I also learned that the Collosium was another huge place but was built to hold fights. The things that fought in the Collosium were animals, slaves, and gladiators. Gladiators fought to the death against the animals, the slaves, or other gladiators. I have learned alot of stuff about ancient rome. I have learned about Pompeii too. Some things I have learned are they had to take a bath in public, the people in Pompeii didn't really have a chance not to die, they got most of their stuff from other civilizations, they were not a country, it was a city. Rome is a city. The city is on Italy. Italy is on Europe. Europe looks like a boot. The boot looks like it is kicking Sicily. Rome has both a major sea and a major river. The river is the Tiber river. And the sea is the Mediterranean sea. People say it has a perfect location because it is along a river, near a sea, and it is hilly to protect from an attack. The legand of rome involves Romulus, Remus, and a she wolf. Some more stuff about ancient rome is they had gods and they inherreted that from ancient greece. They also had that one famous god like Zeus. Christianity was the official religion of Rome and it was started by a guy name jesus. Jesus was killed though he got hung on a cross. Then the emperor at that time when he was walking to battle changed him own mind and decided to become a christan. Then christianity got popular and became the official religion of rome. A few more things I learned during the ancient rome unit is they has a circus maximus, and marcus arilius invented schools, orphanages, and hospitals. There was good emperors and bad emperors. I believe it was a while later Carthage and Rome got into a war. This war was made up of many wars called the Punic Wars. When these wars were done Rome had won. Rome was also famous for its water system. A system of pipes, called aqueducts, ran underneath the city of Rome, delivering water to public baths, and some Roman houses. Now about Rome’s religion. At first, Romans worshiped the gods, which they got from the Greeks. But then a man named Jesus came and introduced Christianity. At first, many people did not like this new religion, and whoever followed it was crucified. But then Constantine made Christianity equal to all other religions. And that is all over Ancient Rome. Julius Caesar became the first emperor of Rome, but the Patricians were mad at him for taking their power, so they killed him. (I don’t know if that’s really right, but that’s what I remember about Julius Caesar.)
Okay, some of the Emperors in Rome. The one I know the most about was Nero, because I had to do a speech about him. He was basically a total crackpot and killed his mother and his wife. Nobody liked him, but he thought he was pretty great. Another Emperor tried to make horses Senators. Obviously, he was crazy, too.

Rome was a city that had everything you can think of, fighting, killing, entertainment, food, games, and especially killing. Even the poor can go because it is FREE. You can go if you can afford the lamp fluid. The poor usually stay home because they can’t afford lamp fluid. Every night something was go on from theaters to dinner parties to private parties, Rome was a firework when the lights go off everyone turns on.

Hey, I’m Nicole Guthmiller and I’m here to tell you a little, not a lot, but a little bit about ancient Rome. It is really interesting; first of all, I’ll tell you about bathing. The Romans bathed in the middle of town. I know it sounds weird today, but it used to be really popular. They didn’t just bathe there; they also ate snacks, worked out, and went to the bathroom, (of course). Next was circus Maximus. It didn’t have clowns, funnel cakes, or anything we’re used to. It had a track where you would race chariots. Next was Pompeii. Yes it was a real place. It had a bunch of people. They had a volcano, (they thought it was a mountain) called Mount Vesuvius. It blew and it covered the whole town with pumice ash. It filled your lungs with cement and it suffocated you. With every breath you take, the cement in your lungs would get thicker. More to come.a
The Roman Bath is the first thing I will talk about. There were a lot of bathhouses in ancient Rome. Most bathhouses included more than just a bath. Most would include libraries, salons, snack bars, music rooms, work out rooms, and more. No children were aloud into the bath. Slaves were, but wouldn’t wash properly. Most bathwater would be green because the Romans lined the pools with lead. (And they probably doubled as allege farms too) Now I’ll talk a little about the Coliseum and gladiators. Underneath the coliseum were corridors and devises. These devises would open trap doors (The trap doors would usually be covered my sand, but the sand is long gone today.) and release animals or gladiators. There were three types of gladiator games. They were animal vs. animal, animal vs. gladiator, or gladiator vs. gladiator. Admission to fights was free most of the time. There were several ways to become a gladiator. They were to be a slave (some would be bought by trainers), a criminal (some are put to death in the coliseum), or a plebian (some would have to do it for the money). Now I’ll tell you a little bit about aqueducts and roads. Aqueducts were used to carry water to places in Rome. They would be lined with lead. (Green water, right on tap!) Some people could afford to have the aqueducts go straight to their houses for their running water and fountains. They would also carry water to public fountains.

I know a lot of things about Rome and what I am going to start off with is Pompeii. The story of Pompeii is very exciting, the story starts off one night with the volcano starting to shock and through ash. The people did not know what was going on at the time they did not know that Mt. Vesuvius was a volcano they thought it was a mountain. The people of Rome were being trapped in their homes with the rocks covering the windows and doors. There was three times that the volcano shocked and the people that were still alive by the third were trying to get out of Pompeii but, they all died trying which is a good thing they still tried. They were really shocked about what was happening.
Now I am going to talk about the emperors. I did my speech for Rome on a guy named Caligula. This emperor is a very evil emperor he proclaimed himself as a god. Many people did not like him he did good deeds but was still very mean. There were also many other gods like Claudius and Julius Augustus, and Casaer Augustus. The major river is the Tiber River and the Mediterranean and the Tyranean are both seas. This is 215 words.

Nine- thousand animals were slaughtered in the process of gladiator fights. The place where the fights took place were in Colosseum. Christianity was the new religion that was spreading through Rome. The mans name who started it was named Jesus, he preached that God loved everybody and he made the world in 7 days. The book that Christians followed was called the Bible, Jesus’ life is in the New Testament. Next I’ll talk about Pompeii, Pompeii was built on Mt. Vesuvius. After about 17 years later it started to smoke, some people didn’t think that anything was wrong, but other people went home and started to pack up to get out of Pompeii quick. It started to smoke and throw big pieces of rocks, then some people started to get worried so they went home to hide. Mt. Vesuvius was started to smoke and throw even bigger rocks, the problem was for the people in there houses were that the rocks started to block the windows and doors so they could not escape. The problem with the people out side was that it was hard to breath in the ash. Only three people survived the volcano eruption, one of those survivors wrote what it was like to be there. Somewhere in the 1900’s people found out about Pompeii and the had dug thought the ash and dirt and found statues of people. I also learned how to write in roman numbers, for example, I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X. Roman numbers were so fun. I’ll talk about Romulus and Remus now they were two twin brothers, there father, the King thought that they were gong to over throw him so he threw them into the Tiber River. A mother she-wolf found them and nursed them back to health. When they got older they said that they wanted to build a city Remus had a much bigger city then Romulus so Romulus killed his brother and that is how Rome got its name. Rome was a fun unit to study but I think that I will also like the India unit. Good bye Rome!!!

Ok well anyways Rome is not a country of course it is do you know well I know it Is a city…and I was in a shape of a high heeled boot and it look as if so it was about to kick Sicily. There is this thing called the public bath where all the “cool” people went to hang out. Also there was something called a gladiator there was a way you could become a gladiator and that was if you were a criminal or not. There was gladiator fights held in something called a colussem. But also there was a Pantheon in Rome and there was a library and a lot more other things in there which you probably have all heard of as for today. Christianity was the new religion that was spreading through Rome. First the Christians were prosecuted for their beliefs. Then Emperor Constantine made it equal with all religion. Ok enough about that I am going to finally talk to you about Pompeii and I know you have all heard of that before. If you have not It is a big volcano that covered the whole ground in ash. There was many people there when it happened but it is hard to say that they could not stand the smoke or any of it so they ended up all dieing and I thought that If that was me I would have been so mad and I would have wished that I would have never lived there but if I stayed alive I would have told people never to move there ever because there is a volcano that will erupt some time soon.

Did you know that Romans were great water engineers? Did you know they had some of the first roads? Yes, all of the sentences above are facts. Romans were great water engineers; they built aquaducts, which are raised channels that could carry water from rivers inbetween mountains and hills for atleats 50 miles! These would take water to public baths and public fountains. It would also take water directly to homes for the plebians. Sadly, the patricians could not afford to have water sent to there houses. Believe it or not the Public Bath was a place to hangout, socialize, relax, and bathe. It cost one quadrant; which is like a penny now days in America, to take a bath. The bath house had a warm pool, a cold pool, and a hot pool. Besides that the Bath House had a snack bar, music room, exercise room, and more! The large Bathes could hold up to 1500 people or more, but the smaller baths could only hold up to around 300 people.183 The roads on the other hand weren't a place to socialize and clean, they were used for traveling. The fist Road was called the Via Appia Road. I am not sure if this specific road still exists today but I know that there are still some roads in Rome that exsist today. In Pompeii roads had slabs or big pieces of cement in the middle of the road so on rainy days you could step acrross the street with out having to get your feet wet. Speaking of Pompeii there was a volcano there that erupted a long time ago. This volcano was called Mt. Vesuvius and filled the air with Pumice. Before it actually erupted smoke fled into the air and some tried to flee and others took cove. Later the volcano let up and people came out of their hiding spots to run while they could. Suddenly the volcano erupted and covered Pompeii in Ash preserving everything!

I know that romans loved to watch races, plays, and fights. Sometimes they even had dinner parties like we do today. there were rich people and poor people(Paticions and phelbians). There were good leaders and Bad leaders(nero B.A.D. to the bone). they worshiped many gods, but than just one(Jesus). They had many great buildings.(what ever that one thing is called). They built roads that carried water(aquaducts). They thought of pipes for water and used them. They used public baths (sick but cool at the same time). they had a lot of shops. pompii is preserved from the volcaneo they thought was a mountan. yeah thats it

Romulus and Remus who were twin brothers got thrown in the Tiber River. A she wolf rescued them. The she wolf nursed them back to life and then they went and started a city called Rome. Rome is different from other civilizations we have studied because it has a River and Seas and it’s a city not a country. It is most like ancient Greece because it depends on seas and it gets some other things from them too. A Collesseum is a fighting arena were gladiator the fighters would fight to the death or sometimes not. There were three different battles man to man, man to animal, and animal to animal. If the gladiator is about to lose the crowd will give a thumbs down which means kill him he fought poorly or thumbs up he fought good don’t kill him. The Gladiators could be criminals, slaves, or anyone that wanted to be one. The Pantheon was built to honor the gods of Rome. Yes there were gods. There were six mane emperors Marcus Aurilleus, Julius Caesar, Augustus Caesar, Claudius, Nero, or Caligula. I think Constantine should have too because he made Christianity equal to all other religions. Jesus created Christianity. Romans had a lot of help with art, government, and other things other civilizations helped them. When you were reading this did anything come to your mind? Such as Roman Numerals. Romans did create Roman Numerals. If you think Roman Numerals would be hard to learn just take some time or keep reading. An I stands for one. A v stands for five. A x stands for ten. Well to get started rome began with Romulus and Remus who twin brothers. So The brothers fought over where the site should be So they decided they would both build a city and Remus was killed by his brother. This left Romulus the sole founder of the new so they named city Rome. The date given for the founding of Rome is 753 BC.
. The pantheon is located in Rome Italy. It was completed on 123 AD. It is 142 feet in diameter. It was built for religious purposes. Emperor Hadrian was the architect for this build. He built this monument to reflect the power of his empire. This building was a dome constructed d out of brick and concrete. The pantheon still exists today almost entirely in its original form. The thing that makes the pantheon so remarkable for its size construction and design. if you were wondering from what I said earlier 142 ft is equal to how far it is from the statue of liberty‘s sandal to her torch. The pantheon remained the largest dome for 1,300 years. Do to the size and weight of the dome they had to find a way to lighten the load. So They made 140 waffle like depressions called coffers. They also carved a whole called an oculus. Pantheon is a greek word meaning “to honor all gods”

Things I have learned from ancient Rome are: well first of all I kind of enjoyed Rome because I learned a lot of things, like I learned about Pompeii, and religion, and their daily life, and etc. Pompeii, I think was the most interesting because I got to learn how the volcano erupted and how many people died and I got to learn about why they put the blocks in the roads and etc. I would not like to live in Pompeii because a lot of’ kids died, and a lot of adults died also. Pompeii is a big city with 20000 people which got covered in ash.
Only some people escaped and some people were shielding which then they couldn’t escape because it was too late. People who were just walking on the street got covered in ash also. Romans were not aware that this was going to happen. The volcano erupted August 24th 79ad. The volcano was called Mt. Vesuvius. Volcano started coming mid-afternoon. People who were sitting down with their legs crossed or standing in a weird position died like that. Well that is all I have to tell you about what I learned!! Ok now i am going to talk about the city of Pompeii.Pompeii had a volcano named Mt.vesuvus.One day this volcano erupted and killed many lives that lived in Pompeii.How these people died is ether they tried to escape and suficated from all of the ash in there lungs Another wat is they got crushed by the pumice that fell from the ski when they were running away from the city of pompeii.People who stayed in there homes also got crushed by pumic.Most of the bodies were preserved from the ash. You could see the bodies in their forms.The people who servived this got out of their homes to fleed the city. The volcano was much smarter than the rest of the people so it eruped again.After that the people of Pompeii died and now we can look and study these bodies that got presered.

The public baths were very very very large they could hold up to 1200 people. Men were not allowed when the woman were bathing and woman were not allowed when men were bathing. Children were not allowed in the baths either.Public baths were very very very popular in rome. The addismision was not even free! Just think of how much moeny the owners of the puplic baths made. Next I will tell you about the Circus Maximus. The Circus Maxumis Was a chariot race done for entertainment in acient rome. These races were alaways violent and somtimes grusome.

They would watch alot of stuff in the colleseum they held man vs man, animal vs man, and animal vs animal battles in the colleseum. Every now and then they had navile battles in the colleseum. you would be a gladiator if you were a slave, criminal, or someone who needed money.
The public bath was a major place where roman people would go to socialize. The public bath had small and big baths the small baths held around 300 people, the big bath holds around 1500 people.
The public bath had many room for a bath house, some of these were, snack room, music room, bath room, gym, and lybrairy.

OK, so back to Pompeii. A smart scientist, much later, found air pockets, and said they should fill those air pockets with stuff, (what, I have no idea).They later found out that those air pockets were the remnants of many thousands of bodies. Any age, it didn’t matter, there were too many bodies to count. I think it was the saddest thing we’ve studied so far. If they tried to run, they died the same way. No matter where they ran, they would die. Some air pockets weren’t filled with just air, some bodies were preserved teeth and everything that has to do with dead bodies. OK, emperor Nero was inane. You know what he did? OK, so you do, but I’m telling you anyway. He killed his family. Not all of them, but it’s enough to go to jail right now. Actually, you go to jail if you kill any one right now. OK, that’s beyond the point right now. The point is, he killed his family, how insane is that? Yeah, pretty insane. There were lots of emperors, personally if you ask me, I think they don’t know all the emperors. Yah, they might have a clue, but what if something is missing? You never know. Gosh, keep straying. OK, back to the real, non-opinion related world. OK, I’m just going to finish this now. Is it alright if we go way over, I hope so, because I am. So there was this totally insane emperor, and he was mentally unstable. I’m not sure how they know that but I guess they do. First there is Romulus and Remus they were twin boys . Romulus created Rome and Remus was jealous of his brother so he jumped the wall that Romulus had made. Romulus got mad at his brother and killed him with an ax. that’s how Rome got it’s name. There were also good emperors and bad ones(Nero B.A.D. to the bone). Those ideas became great things for the future and they didn’t know it. They bathed in a little place I like to call the public bath. It was kind of sick but cool at the same time because they had so many things in there like stores, libraries, baths(of course), snack bars, and more but I can’t remember them. There’s more trust me. They had these really destructive weapons that could throw things and maybe destroy part of an army. I really don’t know about that one I think its true. The men wore togas but those got really hot. Um…………………………..oh the women would look at themselves in a piece of polished metal. They liked to wear lots of pearls too. Its kind of like they fell in love with themselves its crazy. They loved pearls so much that they would put them on their shoes. Now THAT’S crazy. I mean who would put pearls on their shoes(other than the roman women)?

The war between Carthage and Rome was called The Punic War, and Rome won. And for Entertainment they would ether go to theaters, races, or fights. The most famous arena was the Colosseum. There were Bath Houses in Rome were adults would hang out. There was many rooms in a bathhouse there was a music room, library, gym, snack bar, and all the different pools. The bath houses were very popular in the Roman area there were 900 baths in the area and the small ones could hold 300 people and big ones could hold 1500 people, there was also a price to get in a bath houses. The pratricians were very wealthy people. And the plebians were very poor people. In the begining pratricians were the only people who ran the government. But as the population started to grow in Rome, the plebians started to speak out against the pratrician's rights. The pratricians listened and assigned men to protect the rights of the plebians a.k.a. a tribune. The tribune was allowed to yell veto to stop the action of the senate. The people in Ancient Rome had the right to vote and choose their leaders. The leaders that they chose were called representatives. The representatives served on a governing body called the senate. As the population grew even more, Rome was becoming worse than ever before. Julius Cesar brought power and wealth back to Rome by leading conquest. When Julius wanted more power he was killed. When he was killed, the republic was put two an end. And so thats what I know.

Some of ancient Roman weapons were interesting. The pilum was a long spear used to pierce armor. The scorpion was a large crossbow that shot arrows. Ouch. The ballista was used to launch huge stone balls against the enemy.
Rome also built many roads to transport their large armies. They used five steps to build a road: planning, digging the ditch, placing stone mortar, setting gravel on top, and setting stone slabs to make it more level.
One of the biggest parts of Roman life were the aqueducts. They transported clean water to the people. Some aqueducts stretched more than fifty miles. This allowed water to come directly to peoples homes or to fountains.
The Romans also developed a unique numbering system. The system is still used today. The current year, using Roman numerals is MMIX.

Rome too, mostly because of the HUGE eruption the happened there. One day there were lots of people just doing there everyday tasks. Then major earth quacks began. All of a sudden a lot of smoke began to pour out of the volcano. The first people who settled by this volcano thought it was just a mountain so the called it Mt. Vesuvius. Unfortunetly it was a Volcano. Suddenly Vesuvius started to erupt. Pumice flew down, so people went inside their houses for cover. The pumice and ash from Vesuvius covered the houses and buried these people alive.(They're dead now.) Late in the evening Vesuvius stopped erupting for a while and tricked the survivors into thinking the eruption had stopped, so the fled into the countryside. then It started up again. Everybody in the countryside was killed. The final Eruption Covered and buried the town of Pompeii. Now scientists are excavating the town. They have found air sockets while digging, so they pour plaster into the sockets, let it dry and... A cast of a human body is revealed. The reason the body isn't there anymore is because since it was buried in ash, the body decomposed leaving only a imprint of the body. Also Romulus and remus were to boys who were thrown into the Tiber River to drown. But a she-wolf took them in and raised them, instead of eating them. Romulus actually built Rome, but remus got mad and killed his brother. that is why Rome is called Rome, Because it was named after Romulus. Rome is considered to be in the perfect spot because it is near a coast, along a river, and it is hilly so it provides great protection.

As Rome got bigger the Plebian spoke out against the power of the Patricians. Caesar was and the the Civil war broke out and lasts 500 years. Rome won all wars with Carthage.
The other main parts of Rome are: the trade and Jesus. First the trade. The Romans exported wine wheat and glass. They also raised livestock. On to Jesus. Jesus was the story of the New Testament. the New Testament is in the bible. The bible is the book for the Christens. Jesus was Gods only son. He was ridiculed as he went from town to town teaching and healing. The priests and scribes hated him. He was hated by the big men of the time . He was also loved by the people. Most people that is. He was killed on a cross aka crucified unfairly.
I know a lot about the Coliseum since I’ve had it for two things speech and creating Rome so be prepared on some things about the Coliseum. The Coliseum is a very large building measuring one hundred eighty-eight by one hundred forty-six at a height of forty-eight meters. It could hold about fifty-five thousand spectators inside it and it had eighty entrances.
The Gladiators were the people who fought inside the Coliseum. They fought gladiator vs. gladiator, gladiator vs. animal, or they gave the gladiators a break and did animal vs. animal. When they fought against animals it was normally alligators, bears, bulls, ostriches, lions, and tigers. There were several ways to be a gladiator you were a slave, criminal, or poor. Some people say that the gods enjoyed criminals being killed.
Romulus and Remus were the two brothers who were thrown into a river by a king thinking they would over rule him. When they were in the river cold and wet a she wolf came and took care of the brothers and nursed them back to health after the she wolf had taken care of them the brothers decided to build a city. The bad thing was the brothers could not agree on a location but signs from the heavens said that each should build a city so they both built there cities and Romulus got done first. Remus was mad that his brother built a bigger city than him so he climbed over the wall. Then a furious Romulus killed his brother with an ax and the Romulus’s city is now named Rome.
This is my opinion but Pompeii had to be the most fun thing to learn about and the most fun thing to see at Creating Rome. The explosion of Mt. Vesuvius was a very large explosion I even think it was bigger than Mt. St. Helen. I feel sorry for those people who died in the eruption. I am also happy that the eruption happened and that it sealed the city like a time capsule. Pompeii rocks and don’t forget it.

Continued….I got to learn that Rome is not a country it is a city! I also learned that Italy looks like a boot about to kick sarion but I already knew that just not the sarion part! It also is a bridge between Western Europe, Western Asia, and Northern Africa.Pompaii was the coolest!! Its so sad that those people didn’t live but it was totally cool learning about it…were so lucky that the ash preserved everything so that we can learn about the cool stuff there…were not the only ones that learned tons from that the scientist did as well! Rome is a land of greats. Great food, great entertainment, great people, and great fun. They had a wonderful place called the coliseum. They had plays, dances, and death matches. They had a number system called roman numerals. They were I II III IV V VI VII VIII IX X. They also had many many many gods they were, Jupiter , juno, Venus, mercury, Neptune, Pluto, Apollo, Diana, Mars, cupid, Minerva, Ceres, Proserpine, Vulcan, Bacchus, Saturn,
Vesta, Janus, Uranus, Maia, flora, Plutus. Rome had many important things, aqueducts, roads, coliseum, circus maxumus, emperors, Christianity, MT. Vesuvius, Punic war. The coliseum was the center of roman community. They held battles the sometimes the lasted for days. Art was very important to the ancient Romans. They used art work to show what the gods they worshiped looked like. One very important artist was Davinchi
who created many art works that are famous today. They probably had the most disciplined army in the world then and now. There armies never faced a worthy opponent. There weapons were, javelin, spear, lance, short sword, sword, long sword, mace, bow and arrow, natana, and gantlets. There were also cruel at the time of nero. There were 7 was of torture, water, fire ( 7 inches from the feet), cell, food(none for ten days), jail, bug, and emotion. Men would train from the age of 7 to the age of 23. They were a caring group to. They will take in a modest number of injured enemy soldiers and help them if they give info. They had many emperors to here are 6, Nero, Julies, Augustus, creaser, Constantine, culigula. As you can see they are a very advanced, smart, nice, cruel at times, and are one of the oldest standing complete city. Thank you and good night.

I know Rome is a city in Italy. A way to remember where Italy is that is looks like a boot. Rome is a perfect location because one it is along a river two it is near a coast and last it is hilly to protect from attacks and floods. The continent Rome is in is Europe. The two boys that started Rome were Romulus and Remus. The two type of people in Rome were the Patricians who were very wealthy and were ten percent of the population. The other people were the plebians who were more common and not as rich as the patricians. In Rome people went to the roman bath to talk to each other and of course to take a bath. In Rome they used Roman numerals I stood for 1 V stood for 5 X stood for 10 L stood for 50 C stood for 100 D for 500 and M stood for 1000. Christianity started by Jesus in Rome. In the new testament in the bible is where you could learn about Jesus. In Rome for entertainment people celebrated holidays, watched sports and they watched gladiator fights in the colosseum there were three types they did animal vs. animal they did animal vs. gladiator and they did gladiator vs. gladiator. The two seas that Rome depended on were the Tyrrhenian sea and the Mediterranean sea. The major river in Rome was the Tiber river. The leaders of the roman republis were representatives. The Tribune protected the right of the plebians. The war between Cartage and Rome were Punic wars and Rome won all of them. The pantheon was built to honor gods and to show power. Pompeii was covered in ash because of mount Vesuvius. That is what I can think of about Rome.
After the Romulus and Remus were fully grown they left the she-wolf and went to build their own cities. After they built they’re cities they compared them and Romulus’s was bigger than Remus’s and Remus got mad so he climbed the wall to his brothers city. Romulus was mad and killed him and then named his city Rome. Rome is on the content of Europe. The two seas by Rome were the Meditraian and the Tyrrhenian Sea. The three major advantages Rome had were they were protected by the hills, they could trade easily because of the seas and rivers and it was near the coast. The people in Rome were divided into two categories patricians were the rich and the plebeians were everyone else. The leaders of the Roman republic were the representatives and the patricians controlled it. There was a person named the Tribune he protected the rights of the plebeians by stopping the senate by yelling veto. The wars between Rome and Carthrage were called the Punic Wars and Rome won them. Julius Caesar was one of the nice and gentle emperors that improved Rome.

The things Romans did were very interesting I have to say. They would go to a huge arena called the Coliseum and watched fights; sometimes to the death. There were also fights like animal vs. animal, man vs. animal, or man vs. man. They idiotic people who fought in these fight were called gladiators. If the gladiator was not killed in the fight they would get fame and lots of money. People who became gladiators were slaves, poor people, and sometimes criminals.
This unit of Rome I have learned a lot about Christianity, Pompeii, gladiators, public bath, coliseum, and others. The city Pompeii was covered in ash because of the volcano Mount. Vesuvius. The coliseum was located in the center of Rome, Italy. The coliseum was very popular to go to see the professional fighting. The coliseum was the size of are football field today or even bigger. There were over 50,000 seats; they usally would not have to pay to see the show unless a rich man would come in a pay a lot. Christianity was made by Jesus. Jesus was crusified (hung on the cross). He died from all the suffer of trying to breathe. Followers read the bible. A gladiator was a slave, a criminal or a professional fighter in ancient Rome. Gladiators fought other gladiators, wild animals and criminals, sometimes to the death, for the entertainment. Gladiators fought in a big place called coliseum. There were other types of gladiator games like man vs man; man vs animal or animal vs animal. The public bath was for adults to go and hang out, talk and of corse swim (bathe). The bathing house had five other room like the music room, library, snack shack, gym, and the bathing area. The bath water was green because of the led on the edge of the pool. There were two place to go to bathe if you were a male or female you would go in seprate bathes. The rules were no slaves or children allowed and the pool is not a toilot. The war was called the Punic war and Rome won. Julius Caerar was a famous man and he improved Rome. This unit I learened a lot about Rome and I can not wait to learn more about other ancient cool places!!!!!!!
hi i know that romans like to watch people die and they also believed in gods like the greeks. rome was a fun civilization in social studies. christianity is the religion that jesus started and i belive in it and i believe in one god which is also called polytheism. i also know that mt. vesuvius was the volcano that buried pompeii.
So im back and about christianity it was started by a man named Jesus . people who belived in christianity or belived in jesus were disiples and jesus chose twelve (12) disiples to help spered the christianity word around the world and around there town and country.um.... there was a valcano called mt. veusuvious or something and the town or city next to the valcano was pompeii and i think i spelled that one right. For entertament they had gladiator fights gladiator vuerses gladiator and the gladiator vuerses animals and then animals vuerses animals so there were three (3) . As i told u before they had theaters and even small theaters held over 7000 people and they were small and sometimes out side i wounder what would happen if it started to rain. sad for them i guess. rome had aquuducks and roads and roads were very importantfor trading . rome was in the perfic condidtion because it was pretected by hills well mountain for invading countrys and it was by a sea (mediteranian sae to be percise) and the sea would over flow and after awhile when the sea went down the soil was in perfect condidtion it was so feritle . and one more thing there was webquest involed and i did the webquest and colored the frount all differnt colors and dots so hopefully theres my 3oo words and i have another paraghragh thats 114 words so hope fully mr.klumper will let me have these points even though it was due yesterday or at least let me have the 114 words so bye

HI! It's Halle again and I left off talking about the Public Bath. Well I also know somethings about gladiators first of all they were slaves, and anybody that was strong, you would also have to be able to fight. Gladiators had to fight wild exotic animals like the lion, tiger, elephants, ect. and other gladiators. The fights were held at the coleseum which were huge buildings. They had different seating for the different kind of people like the plebians (poor) and petricians (rich, the bottom was for the rich and the top was for the poor. The gladiators didnt eat junk food at all.
Hi Mr.Klumper and Mr.Harding! Now that we are done with Rome, we get to do our end of the unit blogging. So here is my 300 word blog to end the Ancient Rome unit. To start off, Rome is a city, not a country. Rome is in the country of Italy. And Italy is in the continent of Europe. The Tiber River is the major river in Italy and Rome. Rome also looks like a boot kicking Sicily. There were many interesting things to do in Rome.
You could go to plays, gladiator fights, and chariot races. The plays that Romans went to were plays that were outside. The gladiator fights would be the most exciting thing for Romans to go to. The fights would be held in a huge arena called The Coliseum. You would have to pay to get into the Coliseum, but the pay would usually be very little. Sometimes there would also be wealthy people that would pay for everyone in the Coliseum at the time. There were two different types of gladiators; slaves and prisoners. There were also three different types gladiator fights; man vs. man, animal vs. man, and animal vs. animal. During the fight blood would sometimes go onto the audience’s clothing and people actually liked it but I think it is very gross. When the fight was almost over, the winning gladiator would look at the crowd and the crowd would decide if the gladiator would live or die. The audience would decide that by how hard the losing gladiator had fought during the fight. So if the audience thought that he fought poorly, then they would give the gladiator a thumbs down and then the gladiator would most likely die. If the audience gave the gladiator a thumbs down, then he would live. That was some of the things that I learned in the Ancient Rome unit.
Well the first thing is Rome is a city. Also a big part of Rome is the Collosseum. In the colloseum they had fights. These fights were either gladiator vs. gladiator, gladiator vs. animal, or animal vs. animal. Back to the geography, Rome is located in the country Italy. Italy looks like a boot about to kick Scissile. Besides Rome there is Pompeii. Pompeii was destroyed by a volcano called MT. Vesuvius. Vesuvius erupted unexpectedly and caught all people off guard. That is why Pompeii is so important because everybody and everything was preserved just as it was that day it gives us a great understanding of the past. Romans counted in Roman numerals. I will be so kind (LOL) to count to ten in Roman numerals. Here it is I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, and X. The Romans had many senators. I will give a little information about a few. First, Caesar Augustus, the one thing you need to know about him is Pax Romana, which means Roman peace. Second, is Caligula, he was very mentally unstable he tried to make a horse the senate. Third is Claudius, the thing you need to know about him is he was a good guy. Nero, well he poisoned his brother. Also he killed his mother. Last we have Marcus Aurilius. He was a very, very good guy he lowered taxes and helped the poor. To a new topic we have the pantheon. The main thing about the pantheon is it was built to worship gods. There were two types of people; they were patricians and plebians. The plebians were the poorer people of the two. The plebians controlled the senate and were rich. Last thing is Rome and Carthlage had wars that lasted a very long time these wars were called Punic wars. Rome won of the Punic was. So I hope you learned a lot from all of my information.
Well I learned a lot about Rome because it talked about all the bath houses the romans had and how Mt. Vesuvius erupted. I'd have to admit, Caligula stealing paintings or works of art was very mean of him. Pompeii also was a great and vibrant city due to all it's life and good culture it had. Then Mt. Vesuvius had to erupt and end all the fun. Now about 3 million people live at the base of the massive volcano you know they say will erupt in some time of like 2070 something. Even far off in time like that eruption is will be scaryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to over come. The Colosseum being built was a feat of it's own because of it's massive size and everything. The test was a good one and a good defeat and pretty easy for the most part.

It was a cool unit and all but India will be better!
So I learded that there was a city called PAMPAII and the people there had to be very terrified I know I would be.... because it (the volcano)erupted and ash came out and people were preserved!
Also I learned that Romans wear togas and I think thats cool!
Also the Christanity that was cool because I am a Christan....and thats cool how the people got mad at Jesus because he taught people the religon.

So, people always went to the Roman Bath but kids weren’t allowed. The water got there magically. Just kidding, aqueducts brought it. Roman roads were very important too, they circulated life throughout the empire. Christianity also started here which is cool. Jesus preached in houses and synagogues. Caught, Christians were prosecuted and most of the time killed. They were tied to the sea, which makes Rome different, most places just had a river but they had a sea too. Some of their emperors were mentally unstable. But they did have a very very good army. The professional fighters were gladiators, most were slaves. They would also fight animals, they would treat them badly and starve them, to make them angrier. So that is about all I know about Rome. Byeee!
I know that Rome was not a country it was a city and it was in Italy which looked like it was going to kick Sicily Christianity became a big religion in Rome after Jesus started it he was teaching his beliefs but then he angered some people and they decided that Jesus had to go so they arrested him made him carry his cross and he had to wear the crown of thorns on his head then they would nail him to the cross one nail in each foot and one nail in each hand Constantine had a dream that would tell him to put a cross on the shields for the war so that god would help him win so he did and he won the war with a very powerful army
I also learned that the coliseum could hold 55,000 people and they had fights with gladiator to gladiator animal to animal and gladiator to animal there were gruesome fights and the gladiator vs. gladiator fight would sometimes determine if the person would die a stay alive and that would be determined by thumb up or thumb down the Romans had gods to they would worship them in the pantheon the main ruler of the gods in there time was Jupiter in the Greeks time it was Zeus emperors were also a big thing in Rome they had many of them the public baths were the hottest place to socialize they had small bathing areas and big bathing areas they were all heated and there was a library workout room and a snack or restaurant area people would have to pay a fee for the public bath and they would love to go there but it is kind of gross that they would have to take a bath with one thousand other people or so and that is all i have to tell you about ancient Rome. I wish there was more stuff to learn about ancient Rome. I look forward to learning about ancient India.

I learned a lot of things about Ancient Rome. I learned who Gladiators are, (Slaves, the poor, or criminals) and a lot about the Colosseum. It can actually fit 50,000 people, which is really good. I also learned a bunch about Roman baths, mainly because it was my project. Roman baths could fit 300-500 people at one time. They were mainly baths open to the public. About Gladiators, I really think that it’s sad. They shouldn’t have to fight to the death, or have to be taken as slaves. =\ I learned about Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius. Mt. Vesuvius erupted and coated Pompeii in ash, it actually erupted several times. The last time it erupted it officially killed the survivors of Pompeii. The people of Pompeii had no idea what was happening the first eruption, so it took them a little to finally realize that “Hey, maybe we should get ourselves out before we suffocate!” By that time, it was too late for most. The people who had escaped into the country were safe until the last eruption. So all of Pompeii was completely buried in ash and perfectly preserved. I learned a ton, so it’s hard to put it down in 300 words…Okay, I also learned about the Emperors. Marcus Aurilius, Constantine, Augustus Caesar (who, by the way, had the month I was born in named after him), Nero, and more. Nero was mentally challenged. The Romans also had Aqueducts, which were very important for the cleanliness of Romans. They brought water to places as far as 50 miles away, and supplied the water for Public Baths. I thought the coolest thing about Rome is that they had theatres outside, and they were open aired. That’s cool, and they didn’t have to pay admission so it was free. That’s a good portion of what I learned about Rome.

The final day of Pompeii was when the volcano called Mt. Vesuvius erupted and killed everyone. Some people were smart and fled the city but most stayed. The volcano tricked everyone by causing a second eruption because everyone thought the danger was over. The pumice ash covered the city. That helped people dig it up to see exactly how it was the final day of Pompeii. The Colloseum was the fighting arena for the gladiators. It could even hold over 55,000 people. The patricians would get to sit in the front because they were rich. The plebians had to sit in the back because they were not rich. In ancient Rome the Patricians were the ones that ruled. They were very greedy and did not care about the plebians. The war between Carthage and Rome lasted 120 years. It ended with Rome winning all 3. Rome was different for 2 reasons than the other places we have studied because 1. Rome had a major river and sea. 2. It wasn’t a country it was a city. Rome seemed to have a perfect location because it was along a river, it was near a sea, and it was very hilly so it would protect from attacks. sorry about my last comment my computer froze while i was typing but i know that rome is a city in which two boys founded named romulus and remus but remus dies by his brother by getting hit with an axe.To get water to the cities there were things called aquaducks which whould bring water to the cities when the water got to the cities the patricians would get water from the main water supply to there homes or baths bathrooms etc.For entertainment they romans whould watch or go to theatres where they whould watch plays and stuff another one was the collesuem where gladiators whould fight to the death or end up in draws somtimes they where slaves prisoners or volenteers would fight each other or against animals such as lions tigers cheetahsetc.Housing the plebians where the poor so they had apatments wth somtimes water running but otherwise they would get it from the public bath which l get to in just a sec. the plebians had to live with realatives in a single room house so it got pretty crowded. the patricians on the other hand wherwe the rich who lived in single family houses which whould hold there familys quite easyily.they had running water to the baths water fountains etc there windows would face the courtyard so that they didnt get robbed. now the public bath is where you could get water or take a bath public baths had pools hot tubs librarys places where uyou could eat well lets just put it this way its like a mall with swimming pools combined and thats all i know about anchient rome

What I learned about Rome was that they had many gods. They apparently had gods for about every thing. But, they didn’t treat Christians equal. They had them killed. The reason was that was it angered the roman leaders. The things that were different from Christianity and other religions is that Christians have only one god. Jesus taught that god loved everybody. The book they followed was the bible (Which is what they follow today also). Jesus taught them to follow the ten commandments. Emperor Constantine made Christianity equal all other religions. Jesus died on the cross for teaching the word of God. But then three days later rose from the dead.
I also learned about their location. Rome was located in Italy. And it looks like a giant boot about to kick cicely.
Also, I learned about Pompeii. Pompeii was a city close to a mountain called Vesuvius. But, Vesuvius wasn’t really a mountain. It was a volcano. I bet anybody could guess what happened next of coarse it Erupted. Pompeii was covered in ash. The importance of Pompeii is it was perfectly preserved. The reason that was important was we can learn exactly what was happening when Vesuvius erupted. Part of Vesuvius blew off.
I also learned about entertainment. For example there were gladiator fights, plays, and races. Gladiator fights were different then fights that happen in cage fighting. I mean you think that’s bad gladiators fought until one of them was dead. So you think people breaking there legs and arms in fights like WWE(which of coarse is fake) you haven’t seen nothing. Plays were basically the same as today. Because, some plays are held on stages outside. Racing was different. Because they raced chariots. Well I guess we do still have horse races. But now it is mainly car. So that’s what I learned about Rome.
The ancient Romans loved to hear the story of Romulus and Remus. In their eyes, this story explained why Rome had the right to rule. According to the legend, Romulus and Remus justified their right to rule because their mother was a princess and their father was the war god Mars.Rhea was married to Mars, the Roman god of war. Rhea had twin sons. She loved her boys, but there were plots afoot by other gods and goddesses to harm her father, herself, her husband, and her children. To protect the boys, she set them adrift on the river, hoping someone would find them. Who would not love such beautiful boys? Sure enough, first they were found by a she-wolf who fed them. Then a shepherd and his wife adopted the boys. As the twins grew older, they decided they did not want to take care of sheep. They wanted to be kings. They decided to build a city on the shores of the Tiber. They both wanted to be the only king. They quarreled. In a fit of rage, Romulus picked up a rock, killed his brother, and made himself king. That’s how Rome started.
The Colosseum or Flavian Amphitheater was begun by Vespasian, inaugurated by Titus in 80 A.D. and completed by Domitian. Located on marshy land between the Esquiline and Caelian Hills, it was the first permanent amphitheater to be built in Rome. Its monumental size and grandeur as well as its practical and efficient organization for producing spectacles and controlling the large crowds make it one of the great architectural monuments achieved by the ancient Romans.
Well before we leave Rome let’s visit it one last time. Let us start at the beginning the very beginning. It all started with two twins; Remus and Romulus. Twins thrown into a river by a king. Saved by a she wolf, told to build a city. Romulus finished first Remus climbed over the wall. Romulus killed his brother and so began the city of Rome.
I am now going deep down to tell you about the Roman Republic. Now the Republic was all made up of rich people. Luckily certain people were chosen as a group called the tribune they protected the poor peoples rights. If something was bad for the poor they would shout “VETO!”
Next we’re going to visit the Coliseum. There were three forms of fights at the Coliseum. One was human vs. human second was human vs. animal and third was animal vs. animal. Gladiators were three types of people slaves, criminals, and volunteers. Animals they used were animals such as Wild Boar, Tigers, Bears, and Lions.
Now we’re going to visit what’s left of Pompeii. This is the only town that is perfectly preserved. It was seventy-nine A.D. when the so called mountain; Mt Vesuvius; erupted many people didn’t believe this could happen so they stayed. Some very smart people saw what was happening a tried to leave. Some things that blocked escape was hard to breathe air and low visibility. People that stayed tried to run into their homes. Pumice blocked doors killing people by not having enough air. When things stopped the remaining survivors cam out looking for an escape route that’s when the third eruption happened killing the remaining survivors.
Before I go I want to briefly touch on Christianity. Christianity was started by a man named Jesus. At first no one would listen but after a while people started listening to him. Christianity was different than Rome’s religion because it said there was only one god. Christians were killed because of their believes. Eventually Constantine made Christianity equal to all other religions.

Because of Rome’s location, ships from all over sailed into Rome’s harbors. It was important to meet people from other countries to learn new techniques for farming. Three-fourths of the land is hilly. The climate was warm and moist most of the year.
Junius Brutus led Rome against the Etruscans and defeated them. This was marked the beginning of a Glorious Period in Roman History.
Pompeii is the biggest city in Rome with 20,000 people. Foreign influences are Egypt and Greece. It was a popular spot because of fine dining and vibrant life. The final day of Pompeii was on August 24, 79 AD. People didn’t know that Mt. Vesuvius was a volcano. They thought it was a Mountain. Some people fled because they noticed the seismic shock was not weakening. Many of the people died trying to get out of Pompeii.

The patricians are the wetly people and the plebeians are the normal people. The patricians are the people that controlled the republic. The legends of Rome are Romulus and Remulus. The Tribune could yell veto to stop the action of the senate. The war between Carthage and were called the Punic wars. The Romans won the Punic wars. The major rive in Rome is the Tiber River. Rome is not a county. The county of Italy looks like a bout. At first the patricians ran the Republic. The pantheon was built to honor the gods and make them happy.
i am back with more info for you. ok, last time i finished with gladiators. now i am going to tell you about the roman bath! people now days mainly take showers but if you went back in time and ended up in rome do not ask for a place to take a shower! they had HUDGE bathtubs they even had them out side in the streets for the public. they had seperate times for men and women. They had many moere but i will let you learn about that on your own i bet you will be suprised on what you learn on pompeii! threre is so much to learn HAVE FUN!!!!!!!
I know that the Romans where people of great knowledge and strength and they had many things that made life easy like trade and rode’s that circulated life through the empire. The Roman’s had many forms of entertainment like gladiator fights, theater shows, dinner parties, and sports some of the sports where like running, javelin throw and boxing wrestling. Another thing that was sad was Pompeii which is when Mt. Vesuvius exploded and covered Pompeii in ash and rock many people died in that and many people say it will explode again. That is a bit of what I know about Rome
What I learned about Rome is that Romulus and remeus started it. Rome was named after Romulus. the pantheon was built to honor the gods. The colosseum was for fighting there was 3 kinds of fight man VS man, man VS animal and finally animal VS animal. There was a public bath and they went there to hang out and to take a bath. They had a weight room, bathroom, and finally eating places. Christianity is one of the most famous religions in Rome. It spread all around Rome very quickly. Christens were often attacked for there beliefs. There emperor Nero blamed them for supposedly starting a fire and burning down Rome. One of the christens goals were to become more related to god. When Jesus was asked to summarize his story he said it was the loving in your neighbor. One of the most important words for christens is fellowship. This term means that they will live there life as christens together. Rome was a city not a country it had a major river the river was called the Tiber river. Rome also had major sea, the Mediterranean. For entertainment they went to plays, and gladiator fights. The Romans came to school before daylight so they carried candles for light. They had a rest for lunch and the afternoon siesta and then back to school till late afternoon. We don’t know how long the school year was. It was probably different from school to school. School began every year on March 24th. They studied reading writing and counting. They read scrolls and books. They wrote on boards covered in wax and used rocks to do math. The plebeians lived in apartments called flats above or behind their shops. Some flats had running water and some were not that nice. They didn’t have toilets. The patricians lived differently; they had single family homes, where there whole family lived together and they even had toilets.
Romulus and Remeus started Rome. What I missed about it was that Rome looks like its just bout going to kick Isosceles. Rome has a city called Italy and very cool. The plebians lived in apartment housed and they didnt have any toilets at all which probably really stank. The patricians has dingle family homes where there whole family lived all together and they had toilets,unlike the Plebians.
Rome is a city next to the Tiber River, on the coast of Italy. The weather in that region of the world has pretty mild weather. The area around Rome is ¾ hilly giving it a natural defensive position. Since Rome is on a coast this made trade very easy because traders from other countries were able to sail in and out of the Roman Empire with the greatest of ease this also allowed the Romans to learn from these other civilization giving them some of the best techniques for some tasks. This ability to learn from other civilizations made Rome the strong empire it was.
The story about the creation of Rome is the story of Romulus and Remus. Romulus and Remus were brothers, and while they were growing up a king feared they would dethrone him so he tossed them in the Tiber River. Before the two children died in the cold waters a she wolf rescued them and nursed them back to health. The two brothers decided that the city that they would build would be next to the Tiber River but they couldn’t agree on an exact location so they both built a separate city but the gods said Romulus’s city would be much bigger and would be completed first. And so the gods were correct Romulus completed his city first and was much bigger then Remus’s city, jealous of his brothers success Remus snuck over the walls of Romulus’s city but this angered his brother so Remus was killed with a pickaxe by Romulus. Because of this event Romulus city was named Rome, after it’s legendary founder.
After a Roman named Judius Brutis drove out the Etruscans from Rome the government of Rome became a republic. The republic is made up of the people who make and deicide on things or the representatives and the body in which they meet called the senate. The rich people or patricians controlled the government making it hard on everyone else so under the demand of the people of Rome the senate appointed people called tribunes who protected the rights of the not rich people or plebeians and if a tribune did not like what the senate was doing they could yell out veto to stop whatever they were doing. The Roman Republic lasted for over 500 years. After the murder of a leader named Julius Caesar the republic ended and plunged the Romans into civil war.
