Whether it was through Powerpoint, discussion, video, or digging for artifacts, we have learned about some "firsts" of Mesopotamia. We have discovered that Mesopotamia, the first Civilization of the world, was the first to invent written language(cuneiform), irrigation, the wheel, and money. Four things that directly affect us in 2008. I think we can all agree that those are four very important things, especially in today's world. However, let us take a few moments to think about which, exactly, of the four is the most important? Your first instincts may tell you it's money. Judging from this weeks poll, most of you think that. But do not be so quick to answer, think about the world without each of the four. What is it like? You may think money is most important. With money, you can buy a car. However, without the wheel, your car is not going anywhere. With money, you can buy food, but without irrigation, crops would not get sufficient water, therefore, we would not have food to eat. No written language? It would make things quite difficult. We would not be able to communicate with each other which means no talking on the phone, no emailing, no texting and the worst of all, no blogging.

I disagree with you. I think that money isnt really nessasary. We can just trade as a form of money. Creating money is a waste of resources. It also determines your place in society, instead of your services or what you can offer to others. Plus, without written language, you woujldnt know how mush something cost, or even what the money was worth. Thats why I disagree.

We don't get our food from the wheel! Yeah, we need it for transportation, but irrigation is what helps grow our crops. If anything, we could always transfer things in another way. The wheel is important but I think irrigation is WAY more important.

I agree with you patrick. Irragatoin is really important. But the way your saying it makes me feel that you think that money isnt important. That i have to disagree with because you think money isnt important and thats just wrong to say that and the way taxes are raising money is important to. If people are saying money isnt important then they need to figure that people who grow crops have to buy the seeds and a feild and everything like that. so in a way money is important.
i would choose the writing because it was how they"us" learned about the past and about history and thing we need to know to survive and we also need writing for the initial tests and books.

Written language is probably the second most important thing. Without launguage we would not be able to comunicate, and it would make things very hard.

first is easy irrigation u need that to get food are else you don't get as much as you need. just watering like 10 crops a year you would not have enough food and die. secend is wheel to get the crops to the family to feed you need to make it easy to get it there. third is money there is no way to get food if you spechelise in something other then farming so you need to buy some. last is written language you can live without it but it will still be very hard. Ithink that the most important invention was irrigation. Irrigation was the most important because, without even water people would starve. And if you remember the stone age, people didn't have a written language, but they still understood each other. The wheel sure it was used to haul heavy loads, but most of the loads must have been crops but if there was no crops, there wouldn't be a real reason for it.

I think that irragation is the most important because without it we would have no crops. Crops are an important part of my life because my family eats A LOT of corn in the summer. Aslo I bet it is important to your family too. Maybe your mom or dad gardens. The hose they use to water the plants is a type of irragation.
